Hybrid Extended reAliTy – HEAT

About HEAT
Hybrid Extended reAliTy (HEAT) is born to pave the way for the next-generation distributed experiences by overcoming key challenges and bringing to life scenarios that up to now existed only in our imagination: being realistically immersed (holo-ported) within real captured omnidirectional and navigable hyper-realistic 3D spaces, experiencing innovative multi-sensorial inputs such as haptic and olfactory, and sharing these experiences with others, regardless of their location.

The aim of this proposal is to integrate immersive media technologies such as point cloud/holographic imaging, multi-sensorial media, Social VR in a multi-user, feedback-enabled communication system to provide the construction of compelling context-aware and embodied experiences for innovative hybrid XR applications, where remote users can experience a real captured environment through immersive VR, while in presence users can visualise and interact with the holograms of remote users integrated in the real environment through holographic rendering.
VIS & HEAT: Researching XR media & methodologies
VIS is excited to participate in the HEAT project and proud to contribute to Work Package 4, which will validate the project’s outcomes through four pilot actions of increasing complexity. Our role focuses on developing meaningful and appropriately challenging scenarios for each pilot case.
As part of this work, VIS is leading the ideation and production of educational and artistic content. This presents a great opportunity for us to explore the educational and experiential potential of XR media and methodologies. Our aim is to create powerful, enriching experiences that enhance user understanding and engagement.
