A decade after the first detection of gravitational waves opened a new era in our understanding of the cosmos, VIS has produced the planetarium fulldome film Einstein Telescope – Listening to the Universe Beyond the Stars on the third-generation gravitational wave detector that Italy proposes to host at the former Sos Enattos mine, in the heart of Sardinia. The film traces the path that goes from the historic LIGO-Virgo discovery of GW150914 to the future of multimessenger astronomy: black hole and neutron star mergers, kilonovae, and the cosmic cataclysms that shape the Universe.

Cinematic 3D animations and 360° drone footage from Sardinia immerse the viewer in both the science and the territory chosen to host this unprecedented instrument. Produced with the support of Sardegna Ricerche, in collaboration with INFN, EGO, INAF and Telesardegna, the film has been featured at major venues including the Planetarium of Rome, where on the tenth anniversary of the gravitational wave discovery it told the story of a new window onto the Universe. In 2026 the film was selected for screening at the Fulldome Festival of the International Planetarium Society (IPS) in Fukuoka, Japan.
